“GENEALOGICAL GEMS: HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT”
On Friday, October 27, 2017 through the co sponsors; Virginia Genealogical Society, Virginia Beach Genealogical Society, and the Sargeant Memorial Collection of the Slover Library in Norfolk, VA invite patrons to tour the research facilities and to attend a series of free lectures all day presented by the staff of the library. Some of the speakers will include Mary O’Brien-Vidlak, Charles Grymes, and Troy Valos, along with additional staff from the Slover Library on hand to offer research assistance. The Friday event is free and open to the public.
On Saturday, October 28, 2017 through the co sponsorship: Virginia Genealogical Society, Virginia Beach Genealogical Society and the Staff of the Sargeant Memorial Collection at the Slover Library in Norfolk, Virginia. The Conference will run from 8:30 AM to 4 PM. Attendees will be able to choose classes between two tracks offered by two recognized Genealogical Speakers; Shannon Combs-Bennett, PLCGS, and Sharon Cook-MacInnes, Ph.D., CG. Lectures on navigating the Library of Virginia’s website, writing your family history, genetic and DNA related research are being presented by Shannon Bennett. Researching deeds and land records along with military grants, using the FAN club, and getting the most from Ancestry are being offered by Sharon MacInnes. Don’t miss the two day event of genealogical learning from experts in the field of research.
The location where the Genealogical Conference is to be held will be at the Sargeant Memorial Collection, at the Slover Library located at 235 East Plume Street, Norfolk, Virginia 23510. There is a fee to attend the Saturday only event, and attendees are requested to either mail in their Conference registration forms or register online on the website of the Virginia Genealogical Society.
